At a class IV Rapid on the Connecticut River during my Source to Sea Paddle

A Quick Interlude

Taking a Break Below a Dam

I am writing this on July 12, 2022 from the comfort of my home. I have so far paddled about 290 miles of the Connecticut River. I have about 120 miles yet to go. I needed to return home for an appointment and am using an extra day to catch up on writing and to resupply.
My posts arrive via pony express in that while I am living the adventure it is difficult to write. It is even more difficult to post when out on the river. There is often a lag time of up to five days or more between when I live the adventure and when the description of it gets posted. Therefore I wanted to take this opportunity to give a quick update.
I have made it to Turner’s Fall, Massachusetts and will be posting those days soon. Tomorrow morning very early I will be leaving my home with my eBike on my car. I will leave my car in Old Saybrook CT where the river meets the ocean and my paddling trip will end. I will then take my eBike and in a day and a half ride about 110 miles north to Turner’s Falls where my boat, Jenny, is awaiting my return.
Switching bike for boat, I will complete the almost three mile portage around the dam before continuing for about six more days to the ocean. Now I have to finish packing and get back to writing up the blogs.
Thanks for coming along on this journey with me!

  1. I didn’t realize that this paddle to Old Saybrook will be the last leg of the journey. I’m thinking the river will get bigger and bigger – what an adventure!

  2. Mary, you are amazing! I just read from Day 5 forward. I grew up in Greenfield, which is near Turners Falls. In the spring my Dad would take me over to the viewing points to see the spring run off pouring over the dam and rocks. I look forward to the next installments.
